Skinny Cherry Milkshake

Hi Everyone!

Happy Monday to you.  I don’t know where you live?   But I can tell you where I live, it is incredibly hot!  We have been in the 100’s and it looks like the heat is not going to let go for most of the week.  So with all of this hot weather, I can promise you, simple, light, and probably some no bake recipes this week.  I know when it gets this hot I have no energy to do anything and worse of all I’m behind on my blogging.  I normally have a least a few recipes in my back pocket, but this week I don’t have any.  I didn’t plan anything either, so this week will be as much of a surprise for you as it will be for me!  🙂  So let’s get to day’s recipe.

Skinny Cherry Milkshake

This is my Skinny Cherry Milkshake.  I got the idea to make this milk shake on Saturday, when my Friend Nicole and I went to Old Town Sacramento.  Everywhere I looked, everyone was eating ice cream cones and sipping milkshakes.  I couldn’t get it out of my mind!  First thing, after breakfast on Sunday, I whipped up this batch of Cherry Milkshakes for my Husband and I.  Ahhhh, my craving has been satisfied!  This drink, is thick, creamy and oh so sweet!  It’s simply delicious and my Husband drank almost the full batch!!   I guess he liked it too!

I used All Natural Cherry Juice that I picked up from Trader Joe’s and Breyers All Natural Vanilla Ice Cream.  Yes, I used real ice cream in my milkshake.  I needed the real stuff!  I have had this discussion before, but I think if your going to have something like ice cream, get the real stuff.  Read the ingredients, and if it’s cream, eggs, sugar  and milk, get it!  I don’t like the stuff that has a mile long ingredients list and I can’t pronounce half of it.  I’d rather go natural then go chemical.  One of the best things is that a half cup of ice cream is only 130 calories, which is not bad.  Not bad at all.  Love Trader Joe’s but there vanilla ice cream is around 220 calories for a half cup, way to much!  So read that nutritional label and ingredients list!

Skinny Cherry Milkshake

I had my Pretty Muddy big 5k race on Saturday and I completed it!  I have to tell you when my friend Nicole and I did the race it was HOT!!!  It was in the low 100’s when we did it!  We walked most of it, and so did everyone else.  Crazy heat, crazy!!!  The race was an obstacle course with different obstacles like going down a slide and landing in a pit of mud.  Running while carrying a log, crawling under ropes and then crawling under a wall in the mud!!  It was fun!!!!  This race is for everyone and from the pictures I am going to share with you, you will see all different kinds of people doing it.  I highly recommend gathering some friends and trying out the race.  You will have a blast, trust me!  Some of the race was challenging, but if you don’t feel you can do it, then you can walk around.  I did it all.  There was one obstacle called Social Networking and that was scary.  We had to climb a rope ladder that was about 25′ tall and then climb down.  It doesn’t sound to bad, but I was scared.  They didn’t have nets or anything to catch you if you fell, just the dry, dirty ground.  I managed it and I am proud I did it, but honestly I don’t want to do that obstacle again.  My friend said I was shaking.  My heart rate was threw the roof.  I almost started to panic and I talked myself out of it.  Eck!  But other than that, the rest was so fun!!  Check out the pictures and check out the race and see if there is one near you!   Oh and Nicole and I got to be models at the event for Old Navy and we got to keep the clothes.  That was pretty cool!!

Well my Friends, I have a bunch of recipes to make and my day is half over.  Have a great week and stay cool!!

  1. I seriously can’t imagine how you finished the race in that heat! Go you!!

And this cherry milkshake is totally what I need to cool off with these days. Heaven in a sundae cup!

  2. Samantha says:

I’m not exactly sure where I would get cherry juice, so do you think if I were to blend up some actual cherries it could substitute for that?

    • Hi Samantha! You can find cherry juice at Trader Joe’s or at the juice section of your grocery store, but I know fresh or frozen cherries will work out well too, you just may need to add a pinch more milk. Let me know if you how it turns out, if you make it.

  3. Skinny? Cherry? I’m in.

  4. Yummmmm! This looks so refreshing! PS- you look awesome! That race looks like soooo much fun!

  5. Those are fun pics! What a race and I would want one of the milkshakes afterwards!

  6. You already know how I feel about the weather this past weekend, lol! I wish I had one of these!

  7. How fun!! I have never done a mud race before, but it is on my “to-do” list 😀 Thankfully it has cooled down a little in the city today! Phew! Gorgeous smoothie!!

    • I wish the weather would cool here! It is so crazy hot!! I’m heading to the city on Saturday to go to my first major league game ever, Giants vs. Dodgers. I just hope the Bart is up and running. I can only imagine how congested it is in the city!

  8. This is a wonderful idea for a smoothie! I would probably use fresh or frozen cherries and vanilla protein powder in place of the ice cream – I need protein and just no longer have much desire to eat ice cream. I know. That’s weird.

I’m glad you had a good time with your mud race. It’s something I’m not likely to try because I am not physically very adventurous beyond my recently acquired skills in scrambling around on big rocks. I’ll leave the mud races to you young ladies… 🙂

  9. I love this drink so much. it’s perfection. Me and my daughter are planning on doing a mud run next year, and a zombie run. Good incentive to get my butt in gear.
