Hi Everyone and Happy Memorial Day!
Today I bring to you a breakfast that you can drink or eat with a spoon. It’s thick, healthy, full of nutrients and will fill you for hours. This is my Berry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie.
The smoothie is made with oatmeal, yogurt, milk, strawberries, blueberries and chia seeds. This smoothie is perfect for a get up and go morning and whats even better, is that you can make this the night before, if you like? Just add all the ingredients to a blender or bowl, and let it sit in the fridge It will get super thick, so thick you really need a spoon for it. I made this for my breakfast and I didn’t let it sit overnight, I kind of threw it all together and it was pretty darn thick already!
I love adding the addition of the oatmeal to the smoothie and for you guys who can’t eat gluten, I used gluten-free oats that I picked up from Trader Joe’s. For added fiber, I used some Chia seeds. Chia seeds are so weird! When I eat them I think of chia pets. Did you ever have a chia pet?
For the recipe I used frozen strawberries, however you could use fresh. If you want your drink chilled I recommend adding about a half cup of ice to it. I gave my Husband this drink for breakfast and I have to admit he doesn’t like it. He doesn’t like anything with seeds or yogurt, but I gave it a shot. It never hurts to try, right? I will admit their are a lot of seeds in this drink, so if you’re not a seed fan, I don’t recommend this smoothie.
- ½ cup strawberries, fresh or frozen.
- ¼ cup blueberries
- ¼ cup rolled oats (I used Gluten Free)
- ½ cup greek yogurt plain
- ½ cup non-fat milk
- 1 tbsp. Chia Seeds
- Place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth. If using fresh fruit, add about ¼ cup of ice.
Do you have big plans for the day? If the day is anything like our Sunday, I’m staying in. It has been cold and windy here, but at least the sun was shining.
Have a wonderful day!
Toodles,
Jennifer

You’re the fourth blog IN A ROW that I’ve been to that’s made a smoothie 🙂 Something is in the air. Yours looks awesome – oats and berries, yes, please!
This looks yummy, but is there any reason I could not leave out the seeds? I agree with your hubby, I would not like seeds in my smoothie.
No, not on this one, only because you put chia seeds in it. You can take out the chia seeds, but it won’t be as thick. For the strawberry seeds, you can always blend the strawberries with some water, then strain it through a strainer, then add it to the smoothie. Other than that, I’m not sure. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
This looks so refreshing. I really need to try adding oatmeal to my smoothies!
I haven’t tried putting oats in a smoothie yet! Berry smoothies are my favorite.
Berry Smoothies are my favorite too!
I wake up to smoothies almost every morning. I really need to start adding oats!
Try it, I bet you love it!
We eat smoothies all the time here. Never tried adding oats, I bet that would really help them to be more filling. I’ll be trying it soon.
The oats makes it so thick and it is filling! 🙂
