Gluten Free Brownies in a Jar

How are you today!  You know what today is don’t you?  It’s October 1st and you know what October is, right?  It’s two things chocolate and candy month, aka Halloween and it’s also Celiac Awareness Month. You know I am not gluten-free, but I do believe in spreading the word about a good cause even if it doesn’t affect me personally. There are a lot of people out there who has Celiac disease. I am not one to talk about it because I don’t have enough information and I don’t want to give the wrong information. But one thing you may not know is I am part of the Glutino family meaning every month they will send me a product to try out that is Gluten Free and I can share it with you. I am happy to spread the word of living gluten-free, even if I am not. So let’s get cracking to today’s chocolatly treat!

Today’s recipe is for Gluten Free Chocolate Brownies in a Jar. And oh my gosh, so cute, so fun and so darn good!! I love the brownies in a jar because you have room to top to fill them with fun things like ice cream, fruit, caramel, peanut butter and so much more. No need to dirty an additional dishes, just bake, let them cool and serve!!

I used Glutino’s Gluten Free Double Chocolate Brownie mix to make these brownies in a jar. I never used brownie mix from a box and I must say it’s pretty easy! I healthified it a little, by adding egg whites and yogurt to the mix. I can’t do anything about the sugar and the oh so sweet chocolate chips that comes in the package, but I can healthify it as the best as I can. Now you can make this in a standard brownie pan to save on calories, but I wanted to make something special. My Husband loves brownie sundaes and I thought a big piece of brownie in a jar would make him smile, and it did!  For the brownies in this post, I topped it with some vanilla ice cream, fat-free whip cream and a strawberry. I gave it to my Husband while he watched football. I was good and will wait to have one after dinner. As for calories, this is quite high for what I normally post, but not as bad as what you would get at a restaurant, but each brownie in a jar is 284 calories.  I may have over done it a bit.  But if you make these in a brownies in a pan they are only 124 calories, which sounds a lot better!  But after all it’s October and it’s Halloween month and it’s chocolate and sometimes you have to splurge a little!!  If you know what I mean!  🙂

To make brownies in a jar, I used 8 oz wide mouth mason jars and sprayed them with coconut cooking spray. I made my brownie batter and filled the jars about 1/2 way to 2/3rd’s way filled. I placed my jars on a baking sheet and baked for 30 minutes. You have to be careful because they are hot. Let them cool a bit and serve. For the ones I did not eat, I just placed the mason jar lid on it and stored it in my cupboard. But honestly they won’t last very long. The recipe makes 7 and Little Jenny took two to take to her boyfriend’s house, and my Husband ate one. I only have four left and I just made them. I am sure they will be gone by tomorrow!!

You know I failed to tell you about? The brownie!! I was so excited to make them in a jar that I never even said what they tasted like. Let’s just say chocolaty sweet! So good! You get little bits of chocolate chips and the brownie is super moist. Almost reminds me of a lava cake with out all of the chocolate in the center. I just love a owwey, gooey brownie!! If I’m going to splurge I want to do it the right way and this brownie is the right way!

I know this recipe is a little out of my normal, but I always wanted to make brownies in a jar. I just think it’s so cute and it was on my foodie bucket list! I think this makes for a nice October treat! Lucky the recipe only makes 7 and is perfect for sharing or having as a dessert for your guests. Know one will know it’s gluten-free. My family didn’t notice.
