Cajun Seasonings

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday was clean out the fridge and freezer day and I saw a big packet of shrimp that had to be used.  I couldn’t think of what to make, so I started going through my pantry looking for ideas.  I saw about a teaspoon of Cajun seasoning and thought oh my gosh, I’m almost out.  So I read the ingredients on the label and thought, huh, I have all of these ingredients in the pantry, why not make my own seasoning?  So I gathered all of my herbs and spices, mixed them up and I made my very own homemade Cajun Seasoning.

Cajun Spice Mix
The Cajun Seasoning is mixed with salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic, onion and a little more. I do have to admit, there is a punch of heat in the seasonings. If you are not a person who likes it spicy, I would only use half of the cayenne pepper. This recipe also makes about 1 3/4 cups. Enough to get you through the summer.

A spicy homemade Cajun seasoning made with paprika, cayenne pepper and other herbs and spices. Perfect on shrimp, chicken or adding onto anything that you want a little New Orleans flair and a kick of heat.
Ingredients
  • ¼ cup Kosher salt
  • ¼ cup cayenne (use 2 tbsp. for less spicy)
  • ¼ cup sweet paprika
  • ¼ cup garlic granules
  • ¼ cup ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp.onion powder
  • 2 tbsp. oregano, dry
  • 2 tbsp. thyme, dry
Instructions
  1. Add all ingredients to a bowl and use a fork to break it up and mix well. Store in an airtight container in a dark place.

Cajun Seasoning

The Cajun Seasoning goes great on shrimp and chicken, but is also great topping on grilled corn, mixing into macaroni salad and more. Whatever you want to add a little New Orleans flair, sprinkle a little bit on it.

Besides how yummy it tastes in your recipes, it’s also all natural and made with real ingredients, no preservatives or MSG’s. Plus I think it is fun to make.

Hope you have a spicy day! 😉

Toodles,

Jennifer

P.S. Stay tuned for Wednesday’s recipe, where I use my Cajun Seasoning. It’s one I am proud of.
