Homemade Whipped Butter

Hi Everyone,

I would like to tell you that today’s recipe is mine, but it’s not.  Well here’s the story.  On Sunday’s I like to watch Brunch with Bobby Flay.  I am normally cooking or baking and I have it as my background noise and if something grabs me I go and watch.  Well, stupid Bobby Flay!  He was making crumpets and homemade jam.  He said when you make all homemade, why not make homemade butter?  What???  I thought make butter.  My Husband happened to be watching too.  I didn’t make much out of him being there.  Anyway, I saw Bobby make butter in a matter of minutes.  I was amazed.  I said, I have to try that.  That’s it, end of story.  Then last weekend my Husband came back from the grocery store and he said I got heavy cream so you can make butter.  I laughed!  He was even amazed at Bobby’s butter.  So today’s recipe as you can guess it is homemade butter.  Darn that Bobby Flay!  Ok, I just love him, he’s one of my favorites.  Now only if he would invite me to brunch.

This butter is light and creamy.  It really tastes like butter.  Get this, it’s only 2 ingredients.  It’s so easy and impressive.  It took, I kid you not, only 5 minutes to make.  Yup, that’s it!  Two ingredients and 5 minutes and you have butter.

All I did was whip one cup of heavy cream with a dash of salt for 5 minutes on high-speed and fa la, butter.  How easy is that?  Now you can make butter.  This is one of those moments that something like heavy cream can turn into something wonderful.  This was the same way I got when I tried making peanut butter for the first time.

The butter is wonderful on toast, corn on the cob or even crackers like I did.  What ever you like to smear butter on.  It gets super, super soft if left out to long, so be sure to chill it, between uses.

Here’s a dog story for you.  When I was getting my stuff together to photograph, I ran to the other room to grab a napkin and I heard a bag.  Darn it all!  My dog knocked down the carton of heavy cream.  I had heavy cream everywhere.  I cleaned it the best I could, but it went on the rug.  I pray that it won’t smell.  I swear I can’t turn my back on Sampson for one minute.  Why would he go after a carton of heavy cream?  Sheesh!

While I was at it, I did manage to have enough heavy whipping cream to make homemade whipped cream.  Yum!  I make this for my Husbands ice cream.  I’ll try to stay away, but it will be hard.

To make whipped cream all you need is one cup of heavy whipping cream, 1 tsp. vanilla extract, and 2 tbsp. powdered sugar.  Place in a mixing bowl, and with the whisk attachment, beat together for 2 – 3 minutes.  Top on all of your favorite desserts and fruit too.

How cool is that?  I am amazed by simple things like this and this is one recipe I will use to impress.  Next time you have some heavy whipping cream, save some to make butter.  No need to churn like they did in the old days.

Enjoy!

Toodles,

Jennifer
