Sonoma-Cutrer Winery #SonomaCutrer

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hi Everyone,

Today I am bringing you on my journey to the Sonoma-Cutrer Winery for a little wine tasting, beautiful scenery and wonderful people.  I started my day with a drive up into Sonoma County, off highway 101, just past Santa Rosa.  It was a beautiful sunny day and a perfect day to check out the local orchards, have a nice lunch and sip some wine.

I was pretty lucky when I arrived at the winery because they were having a private party, but they still let me in to take a look around and to try some of their wines.  When I arrived I was greeted by Alison who has a passion for wine.  She was so kind, funny, knowledgeable and a great hostess.  After all I like wine, but I really do not know too much about it.

Alison asked if I wanted to sit outside and taste some of the wines.  I said yes of course, who am I to turn down a private wine tasting?  She sat me at a little table, brought out some pretty flours, bread sticks, wine glasses and a collection of Sonom-Cutrer Chardonnay.

When I was sitting there I had a beautiful view of green grasses, trees and people playing croquet.  Plus to the right of me was the winery, which was being re-modeled and will be open soon, if not already.  Here is my view for you to see.

The first wine I tasted was the 2013 Chardonnay – Russian River Ranches.  This wine has fresh aromas of green apple, lime, pineapple and complemented with touches of nougat, caramel and Sonoma-Cutrer’s signature minerality.  When I took my first sip, I found the wine to be fresh, crisp with tastes of citrus.  It has a very light oak taste to it.  It was my second favorite wine and I bought a bottle of it too.  It’s also very food friendly.  I would serve it with chicken or fish.

I also tried the 2012 Chardonnay – Les Pierrers.  This wine has aromas of lemon and lime.  I found the wine to be crisp, fresh tasting, a little spicy, a light oak flavor and slight flavors of caramel. Yes I said caramel.  The wine has a light taste of creme brulee, and toast.  It is simply unique and a wonderful compliment to a cheese platter, chicken, or shrimp.

Don’t I look so happy?  I could do this everyday if I could.

My next wine I tried was Sauvignon Blanc .  When she poured it into my glass I could smell the tropics. The Sauvignon Blanc is a uniquely special release. This small production offering represents the first-time Sonoma-Cutrer has created a wine outside of the two varietals for which we are known – Chardonnay and Pinot Noir! This was my favorite wine!  You could taste pineapple, peaches, guava and passion fruit with a lemon after taste.  This wine would be so perfect for sipping on the beach.  This wine has fruit from 3 local vineyards and won the Gold Medal at the Riverside Competition.  I could see why it won.  I know this is a limited edition, but I do hope they keep making it because this one is a keeper.  You can guess I bought a bottle of this wine too.

The last wine I tried was a desert wine; Last Harvest Chardonnay.  Oh my gosh!  it is so sweet and amazing.  The Last Harvest Chardonnay  is a sweet dessert wine with fresh flavors of peaches, apricots and honey.  It’s perfect for an after dinner drink.  When I took my first sip I automatically thought, this wine would be great cooked in peaches.  So yes I bought a bottle because I need to make a recipe with it.  It would go wonderful paired with hard cheese, berries or making Bellini’s.

I managed to only buy 3 bottles of wine, because I was indecisive on what I wanted to buy.  But you know what?  They have a wine club.  You are shipped 3 times a year from 4 up to 12 bottles of your favorite wine.  So now you can try the wines that I tried.  You can get more information at Sonoma-Cutrer.

If you happen to stop by Sonoma-Cutrer Winery, I recommend bringing a picnic basket filled with cheese crackers, sandwiches.  Pick up a bottle of your favorite Sonoma-Cutrer and enjoy lunch at one of the picnic tables in front of lake on the property.

I also wanted to share with you my list of the wines I tried.  I’m showing you the clean version, because I wrote all over my copy.  I had to take notes, so I would remember what wines I loved the best.

You can make reservations online for a wine tasting and wine tour.  I would have loved to take the wine tour, but it was not going on the day I visited.  I guess I have another excuse to go back!

The Sonoma-Cutrer tasting room is open Thursday – Monday, 10:00am – 4:00pm. Located at 4401 Slusser Road, Windsor, CA 95492.Call 877-797-3489 or visit Winery Tour to reserve tour/tasting and for more info.
