Classic Chex Party Mix #SundaySupper

March 8, 2015 By Jennifer @ PB and P Design 32 Comments

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to give you a small update and let you know I am feeling so much better.  My cold lasted 2 weeks and the only thing that remains is the cough. The cough is getting less and less each passing day, but it is still slightly there.  I want to thank you for your kind words that you sent me.  That means a lot to me.

Now onto today’s recipe!  Today for #SundaySupper we had to share with you a retro recipe.  When I think retro I automatically think the 70’s.  But actually I was listening to the classic rock station and they were playing 80’s music.  Eck!  Now I feel old!  Anyway, I googled retro recipes and one recipe that kept standing out was Chex Party Mix.  It seems that in the 70’s it was a must have at all the parties.  Then I did a little homework and I found out that Chex Party Mix recipe actually came out in 1952.  Now that’s retro!  A little history here, but the recipe for Chex Party Mix made it to cereal boxes in 1985.  If you now check out the cereal boxes, they have a ton of different Chex Mix recipes from Corn Bread Chex Mix to Cherry Malt Chocolate Chex Mix.  Boy there are a ton of different ways to make your Chex Mix.  But today I did it the old fashion way, just like they did in the 50’s, except I did use the microwave to melt the butter. Hey, I had to cheat somewhere.  But the rest of the recipe is the same.  So here is my recipe for Classic Chex Party Mix.

Classic Chex Party Mix #SundaySupper
The Classic Chex Mix is crunchy, salty and it kind of reminds me of a slight Asian flavor. I think that is from the Worcestershire sauce? None of the flavors are overwhelming, but they all go together beautifully. This is an addicting snack, so be warned if you make it. I couldn’t keep my fingers out of the container. In general for a party snack I think it is pretty healthy. The recipe makes 12 cups and each serving is only 125 calories. Like I said, the only problem is sticking to one serving size. I could sit here and eat the whole recipe. Matter in fact I have a little bowl of it sitting next to me right now.
Classic Chex Party Mix #SundaySupper
Chex Party Mix is made with simple ingredients that you can find at any grocery store. Matter in fact I bought everything I needed at Target. The Chex Mix is made with Corn, Rice and Wheat Chex cereal, mixed nuts, pretzels and garlic flavored bagel crisps. The flavor comes from the butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and onion powder with a little bit of seasoned salt. It’s really a simple fun recipe to make. I bet the kids would love to help make it with you too!  The sinful side of me says to add some chocolate chips when it’s cooled to make it sweet and salty, but I didn’t tell you that.

🎄
I was gifted this beautiful table cloth by @cottonprintclub. It’s 100% cotton, comes in several sizes and colors, doesn’t bleed or shrink when washed. I love the shade of green and it is so beautiful that you can use it all year.
🎄
I went with a simple tablescape to show off my beautiful plates that I received from @backcountrymercantile. All I added to my table was some garland, candlesticks and of course twinkling lights. Swipe the photo to see my table in the evening.

Happy World Kindness Day! This weekend I made my a Happy World Kindness Day! This weekend I made my annual snow jar to place on my shelf in the kitchen. You get a tiny sneak peak of my shelves at the end of the reel. The snow jars are so easy to do and you probably have most of the items on hand.
💗
For the snow, I used blanket snow. You could also use, sugar or Epsom salt. I like the blanket snow because it’s not messy and it hides the fairy lights battery pack.
💗
The houses are ornaments that I bought at Target. I thought they were Perfect for my pink kitchen. Of course you can use whatever you have on hand. It doesn’t have to be a house and tree.
💗
If you buy fairy lights, make sure they have a timer on them. Trust me that will make life easier. If you don’t like fairy lights, you can use a faux candle.
Ohhh and have a stack of batteries. I go through more batteries in the month of December then I do the rest of the year!

Items used:
Apothecary jar
Fairy lights with timer
Pink house ornament
Bottlebrush tree
Pink ribbon

Everything, but the pink ribbon was bought at Target.

Happy Monday! Sorry I haven’t been on in awhile. Happy Monday! Sorry I haven’t been on in awhile. My husband was sick with the flu, then he passed it on to me. My dog even had an upper respiratory infection. Ugh! It was a rough 2 weeks. Then on Friday I had surgery to remove skin cancer on my chest. I’m sore and I can’t lift or exercise. Anyway, that’s why I have not been on.
🦇
I wanted to give you one last look at my Halloween kitchen before I change it out. Not sure if I’m going to add some Fall or Christmas next. Did you know Christmas is in 63 days? 😳
🦇
So I have been thinking about Christmas colors. The past 2 years I have done green and I love it, however I have always wanted to do a pink Christmas. Just not sure if I can pull it off? I don’t know if I want to go crazy and buy a bunch of pink? What color are you doing this year?
🦇
Have a great day!!
