Mango Curry Lime Salt Recipe #FlavorForecast

Hi Everyone,

Today I teamed up with McCormick to share with you The Flavor Forecast of 2015.  I have to admit I am a traditional kind of girl and I don’t normally go out of my comfort zone when it comes to flavors.  I like flavors like spicy, Mediterranean and Mexican flavors.  However, when I go out and try something new, I’m like “Oh my gosh”  this tastes amazing.  What flavor combination is this?  I re-read the menu and think how can I re-create this?  But you know what?   I rarely ever do.  I just go back to the restaurant and order it again.   But this year it’s going to be different.  I really want to step out of my comfort zone and try something new.  Now with McCormick’s Flavor Forecast 2015, I can take their recipes and make amazing dishes with different type of flavors.  That brings me to today’s recipe which is Mango Curry Lime Salt.

I decided on a salt recipe because you can do so much with salt and honestly I loved flavored salts.  I use them all of the time, but never ventured out and try making my own.  This salt is amazing and so simple to make.  It has a savory flavor from the salt and curry powder, but a little sweetness from the mango and a tad tart from the lime zest.  But my favorite part is the slight kick of heat from the crushed red peppers.  You know how I love my heat.  🙂 All of these flavors go wonderful together.  Honestly if it wasn’t for McCormick I would never have dreamed of this flavor combination.

This salt would go wonderful sprinkled on a bowl of rice, quinoa, chicken, shrimp or even a veggie wrap.  So if you have a dish that kind of lacks in flavor, this salt will zip it up.  I like it best on plain chicken and brown rice.  The recipe calls for coarse Sea Salt, but I am a fan of McCormick’s Gourmet Salt rather than sea salt so I used that instead.  For the ingredients I used gourmet salt, vegetable oil, curry powder, crushed red pepper flakes, dried mango, and lime zest.  Once you mix it all together, you store it in an airtight container.  I used a mason jar to store it.  Look how pretty the salt looks.
