Hello,
Today I am bringing you another holiday side dish! This one is my second favorite next to stuffing. This is my sweet, yet tart Cranberry Apple Sauce. Well it’s more like a chutney, but I’m calling it sauce. Mmmm, I love it!!!
This cranberry and apple sauce is sweet and has the right amount of tartness to it from the cranberries without being to over whelming. To me it’s just perfect and oh so healthy for you! Cranberries are loaded with fiber, antioxidants, helps with bladder infections, good for the eyes and have lots of calcium and only 45 calories for a cup! Good stuff in these little red berries. You can’t beat that! I have to be sure to freeze some before they are out of season. I tend to only use them in the Fall and there is no reason why you can’t have them all year! So be sure to freeze you cranberries while you can!! I think I’ll do that tonight as a matter of fact!
The cranberry and apple sauce is also super easy to make too!! I just added cranberries, apples, apple cider and maple syrup in a pot, and cook for about 15 minutes. Let it cool to thicken up and bam you have the most awesome little holiday side dish ever!!
Now be sure you make extra of this recipe because you are so going to want leftovers. It’s great on sandwiches, topping on turkey or chicken, as a side dish and heck you can even bake with it. I have a recipe floating in my head for what I want to use the leftovers for. Oh yah, you better believe I made leftovers of this recipe!
- 12 oz bag (3 cups) fresh or frozen cranberries, thawed
- 1½ cups apple, peeled, seeded, diced
- Juice and zest of 1 orange
- ⅔ cup apple cider or apple juice
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- In a sauce pan add all of the ingredients and cook over medium heat, stir occasionally. Bring to a boil, and simmer for about 15 minutes until cranberries pop and sauce has thicken.
- Serve warm or chilled.
- To make sweeter add more maple syrup or brown sugar
NOTE: This recipe may make more, I ate some before I measured it. he he
Yum, yum, yum! As I am writing this I think I need to spoon some sauce in my mouth! When I describe something, it makes me want to have it right then and there! That’s one thing about blogging, you just want to keep eating.
Well my Friends, time to start cooking and I think I want to make more cranberry sauce. By the time Thanksgiving comes around, my Husband will be so sick of my daily Thanksgiving feasts. lol Yes, we have had turkey already 3 times this month! Oh well, it’s just that time of year!
Have a wonderful day!

What kind if apples do you use?

Hi, I used Pink Ladies. You will want to use a more firm apple in this recipe. Soft apples like Macintosh get to sift and you end up more like apple sauce.
