Howdy Folks,
This Saturday was a nice day, I did my normal routine by going to the Farmers Market in the morning. I’d show you pictures of what I got, but it’s the same as last week with an addition of 10 pounds of oranges. I have no clue on what I am going to do with all of the oranges, but all I know is that I have been craving them. Any suggestions?
Jenny and I were going to see Magic Mike, stood in the line only to find out it comes out next Friday! Darn it, I had my heart set on seeing it this weekend!! So we decided to have a quick-lunch at Mel’s Diner and that was horrible. I thought I would be good and get a Chicken Fajita omelet with egg beaters, whole wheat toast and a side of fruit. I had 3/4’s of my omelet because the vegetables and chicken were so greasy! I still have a stomach ache from it! I knew I should have gotten a plain salad.
After lunch we did a little shopping, I didn’t buy anything except for a $8.00 tank top from Hollister. I tried a dress on from White House Black Market that I loved, only to find out it didn’t look very good on me. I was so disappointed in that. What’s even more disappointing is when Jenny said, now don’t take this the wrong way (you know that can’t be good when someone starts off by saying that), you’re not fat, at all, but you could use some toning. Maybe you should do some walking and lift weights? Eck!!! That was an eye opener! I’m so sad with myself.
After that we got pedicures and then I rushed to the sporting good store to get a new heart rate monitor. Mine was not working anymore and I’m hoping that my new one pushes me to exercise. I really want to join a gym, there’s one 5 minutes from my house. It’s janky and small but they have treadmills, bikes ect… I need something, but my Husband is against gyms and he won’t let me join. I am just so bored with exercising at home. I did however buy a Bosu Ball online when I got home. They had one on Open Sky, and I had a $30.00 credit, so I thought that this would be perfect for me. It comes with workouts, so I’m hoping to get some toning in with that. I can’t wait for it to arrive. Anyone ever use a Bosu Ball?
Sorry for the rambling! Today I have a quickie how to cook corn on the cob for you. My Husband sent me a video from You Tube with this on it and I just had to try it! I figured with corn just starting to come in season, that this little how to will come in handy. Ready…
Take one ear of corn
Just place it in the microwave and cook for 4 minutes. No peeling required. Once it’s done, chop the stem off.
Hold the ear of corn by the end where all the stringy parts are, and shake it. The corn falls right out and the best part is, it’s mostly string free.
It was perfectly cooked, easy to do and no boiling, no soaking, no peeling the husk or barbecuing required. It steamed it’s self right in the husk and came out clean!! Now that’s what I call simple.
I know what your thinking, but come on, wasn’t that kind of cool? This is perfect for having for lunch in the office or as a quick side dish at dinner. I really love that I didn’t have to peel it! Thats the one thing I don’t like about corn! I bet you could peel the husk back and add some seasonings to it and close it back up and steam the corn that way too. I’ll try that next time.
A lot of times, I feel that things are so simple, that people don’t know about it. I didn’t know about this technique until I saw the You Tube Video. I have steamed corn in the microwave before, but put it in a dish with a little bit of water and covered with plastic wrap. Now I won’t have to dirty another dish for making corn anymore.
Here are some corny facts for you!
• Farmers grow corn on every continent except Antarctica.
• One bushel of corn will sweeten more than 400 cans of Coca-Cola.
• There are about 800 kernels in 16 rows on each ear of corn.
• The corncob (ear) is actually part of the corn plant’s flower.
• The main ingredient in most dry pet food is corn.
• Corn is America’s number one field crop. Corn leads all other crops in value and volume of production.
• A pound of corn consists of approximately 1,300 kernels.
• Corn is used to produce fuel alcohol. Fuel alcohol makes gasoline burn cleaner, reducing air pollution, and it doesn’t pollute the water.
I hope you enjoyed today’s “how to edition” on making quick and easy corn!
Have a great Sunday!
Toodles,
Jennifer
Did not know about Microwave secret. 🙂
Yup! Totally cool way to cook your corn!
I just learned this method a few weeks ago and won’t go back to any other way when preparing it on the cob! It’s amazing. No tedious silks to remove.
I’m waiting for Silver King (not Queen, but King) corn to come in. It’s the most delicious corn I’ve ever eaten. I love Silver Queen and Peaches and Cream but Silver King is the best. Can’t wait.
Don’t you just love this method! It’s so simple. I can’t believe I learned it from You Tube, and even weirder is my Husband told me about it!
I have no clue what kind of corn I am buying? We have corn crops everywhere where I live, even next to the mall! In a couple of weeks, we have the corn festival. I just love it!!!
Thanks for this tip! I just started boot camp this summer and it has been great! Cardio, weight training, and core workouts have really been great for my body. You might want to see if there are boot camps in your area! Good luck!
Thanks for the idea. I should look for a bootcamp. I would love it to have a place to go and be with other people who have the same goals as me.
Hmmm…..I hope the “get toned” comment came from a loving place. It sound so, but still can be harsh…..and Really, who is buying clothes from Hollister? You have to be 17 or under, half deaf (the noise is ridiculous) and wear nose plugs in there! But at least it was just a tank. Will try corn like this for sure. I’m an Indiana girl so I know most ALL things Corn! Thanks
The comment did come from a loving place. She would never say anything to hurtful,we told each other to be honest with each other, no matter what. The only thing I buy from Hollister is the tank tops and t-shirts, they come in long, which is hard for me to find. I could never fit into there jeans, skirts or shorts, unless I want to show the world my butt! 🙂
Sorry about the bad lunch, I even feel skeptical on salads at some places. I guess “If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself” holds true!
Great corn cooking tip, thanks! I always use the microwave, but haven’t tried this yet. Have a great day!
I love to make my own salads, so much nicer and I can control my goodies I put in it! 🙂 Try the corn this way and stop back and let me know how it turned out.
I have been husking mine and wrapping each in a damp paper towel and micro for 4 minutes. Your idea seems so much better, no paper towel waste!
I husked mine and put it in a Pyrex dish with water and covered it with plastic wrap. That was a pain in the butt! You have to try this method and stop back and let me know how it turned out.
Great way to cook the corn if you’re on a time crunch as well — 4 minutes is nothing! Thanks for this tip!!
Anytime!! It makes life so much easier to cook it this way!
Love that!! I went to college in Iowa back in the day, so I’m all about the sweet corn!
I love sweet corn!! I tend to forget how much I like corn on the cob until it comes in season!! Yum!! I remember driving through IOWA and it was miles, after miles of corn crops. Pretty cool!!!
Wow! Did not know the microwave trick! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Your welcome! It’s amazing what you learn from You Tube! lol
This is a great tip! Now that all the corn is on sale, I’ll have to give this a try! Thanks! 🙂
Your welcome! I’m so glad corn is back in season!! I always forget how much I love it!
