Classic Mimosa

Hi Everyone,

Every year on Christmas morning I have a tradition.  I make Trader Joe’s Croissants, and homemade Mimosa’s.  If you never had Trader Joe’s Croissants, plain or chocolate, you must try them.  Just leave them to rise before you go to bed.  In the morning, add egg wash and bake.  It tastes like homemade.  It is a family favorite!  A personal favorite of mine is Mimosa’s.  A classic drink that takes a few minutes to make.  I simply love them.  Christmas isn’t Christmas without them.

If you never had a Mimosa, it is a combination of orange juice and Champagne or sparkling wine.  Super simple to make.  It tastes like bubbly orange juice.  It is slightly sweet and a little dry. The Champagne bubbles go up your nose.  You have to love the tickle.

The first thing I do is rim the champagne flute with the orange.

Dip the rim of the champagne flute into fine sugar.

Fill the champagne flute half way with Champagne or Sparking Wine first.   This will let the orange juice and Champagne combine together nicely.  They are a match made in heaven.

Fill the rest of the glass with orange juice.  Since you do not need a lot of orange juice, I recommend freshly squeezed.  I bought freshly squeezed orange juice from Trader Joe’s.  If you have some beautiful Navel Oranges, you should juice them and use them in your drink.  This is the time of year for oranges.

For some reason this time of year I crave oranges.  I simply love them and find them so refreshing.  That is why I bought a big thing of  orange juice from Trader Joe’s.  I can also go through Clementines like there is no tomorrow.  I went grocery shopping and the only vegetable I bought was carrots, which is odd for me.  I bought oranges, lemons and apples.  Crazy!  I do this every year.  I just need fruit!

I just love holiday drinks.  They are so festive with all the holiday flavors.  Cranberry drinks are another favorite and I can guarantee I will be whipping up another drink using cranberries.  What is also nice about these drinks is that they are low-calorie.  A Mimosa is about 120 calories for 8 oz.  So have two and enjoy!
