Grilled Top Sirloin with Strawberry Salsa

April 25, 2013 By Jennifer @ PB and P Design 19 Comments

Hello,

I know I have mentioned how hot it has been here, but it’s been crazy!  My guess is that it is in the mid 80’s and I heard 90’s are on the way.   So I am forewarning you, I will be posting a lot of no bake recipes and grilled ones.  The house is warm inside and turning on the oven, just makes it 10 times worse!  Ugh.  So speaking of the grill, today’s recipe is a Grilled Top Sirloin, topped with a sweet and spicy strawberry salsa.

Grilled Top Sirloin with Strawberry Salsa

Since my Husband has been on a beef kick lately, I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and make a tender top sirloin for dinner on Sunday night.  When I was picking out my steak, my Husband was like your eating steak?  I like steak, I just don’t eat a lot of it because of calories.  Yah, yah, I know calories!  But top sirloin is only 160 calories for 4 oz, which is pretty good for steak.  But one thing about sirloin, it can be a little tough and chewy.

Grilled Top Sirloin with Strawberry Salsa

But my sirloin didn’t turn out that way.  Mine was very tender and very easy to cut.  I thought I would try out the yogurt marinade that I mentioned yesterday, and low and behold it made my steak tender.  I let the steak marinate for about 3 hours.  I added a pinch of Worcestershire sauce, garlic and balsamic vinegar to the yogurt.  It also added a nice flavor to the steak to.

Since I have a ton of strawberries, I thought a nice strawberry salsa would go great over top of the steak for some additional flavor.  The salsa is made of sweet strawberries, cilantro, onions and jalapeno.  Yum!!  The salsa would also be good on top of bread or dipping pita chips into it.  I am loving the salsa!!  You mix my favorite fruit and vegetable together and I am all over it.  Hope you’re not going to get sick of strawberry recipes, I will probably post a billion of them before the end of summer.

A tender, moist marinated sirloin steak topped with a sweet and spicy strawberry salsa.
Serves: 3 servings
Ingredients
  • .85 pound tri tip steak
  • **For Marinade**
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • ¼ tsp. oregano
  • 2 tbsp greek yogurt
  • **Strawberry Salsa**
  • 1 cup strawberries, diced
  • ¼ cup red onions, diced
  • 2 tbsp. cilantro, diced
  • 2 tsp. jalapeno, diced
  • ½ tbsp lime juice
  • ⅛ tsp salt
  • ⅛ tsp pepper
Instructions
  1. Place steak in a baggie or shallow dish; set a side.
  2. Mix all the marinade ingredients in a bowl and pour over the steak and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  3. Meanwhile, to make the salsa. Add all of the salsa ingredients together and refrigerate until ready to use.
  4. Just before cooking the steak, bring it to room temperature.
  5. To cook the steak; set the grill over medium heat and cook the steak for about 8 minutes per side, depending on how thick the steak is and the desired tenderness you prefer.
  6. Once steak is cooked, cover with aluminum foil and let it sit for at least 5 minutes, that way the juices stay in the steak. Cut the steak against the grain.
  7. Top steak with strawberry salsa

Grilled Top Sirloin with Strawberry Salsa

I wanted to let you know I haven’t updated my recipe page in over two-weeks.  It seems it won’t hold any more pictures, so I need take the photos out.  I started to work on it, but then Google Chrome shut down and I lost all of my work.  I was irritated so I gave up.  I contacted a designer to see if they can help with my recipe page, since I don’t know what to do with it.   I haven’t heard anything back yet.  If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.  I just want a pretty recipe page, and it seems a lot harder to do then you would think!

It’s about that time!  Need to make lunch and get ready for bed.

Have a great day and the weekend is almost here!  Woohoo!!

Toodles,

Jennifer

That steak looks so good I’m literally salivating at the moment. The strawberry salsa adds a nice touch that compliments the steak nicely and I could see it being quite versatile for other cuts of steaks as well such as a skirt steak. Mmm definitely going to give it a try especially now that strawberries are so nice right now 🙂 Thanks for sharing this post.

P.S. In regards to your photo issue. From the hearing of it. It sounds like your saying you hit a limit. If you are using wordpress hosted online and not with your own hosting, I believe there is a 32 gb limit for media. I run my wordpress site hosted through my own hosting but I use Flickr to store all my photos for my posts. Its something to consider for maybe the future.

Thanks Jerry, I should look into Flicker. I store all my pictures in my media library. Probably not a good idea.

Your welcome Jennifer. The main reason for me going with storing photos online instead is because I was concerned if my media files or data somehow got corrupted or my local copy got messed up or lost, I would be in a hard place and hard rock so by using flickr Pro paying less then $30 a year has given me some peace of mind. Good luck with whatever decision you choose going forward 🙂

I’m looking forward to your no bake recipes! Unfortunately, it’s still a bit chilly here in Michigan. We’re lucky if we can get a high of 60 degrees and have a day without rain. All I can say is thankfully it’s not snow!

Hopefully the weather will warm up soon for you! We went from winter to summer over night, but now it’s a tad cooler, but it’s suppose to heat up again next week.

Happy Monday! I’m sharing with you a rare view of Happy Monday! I’m sharing with you a rare view of my kitchen. What’s so rare about it! It’s clean. 🤣
.
So this weekend our refrigerator broke. The freezer no longer works and the fridge is not getting cool enough. Ugh!! We bought our Whirlpool refrigerator about 4 years ago and spent near $3000 for it. It sure didn’t last long.
.
After reading reviews on a million refrigerators, they all seem like crap. I need your help! Do you have a refrigerator that you recommend?
.
I saw a Frigidaire one that we are debating on, but not sure? The reviews are good, but says, they were collected from a promotion. So I’m not sure how much I trust that? Anyway, any recommendations that you have would be great!
.
Have a great day!

Hi Everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. I mus Hi Everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. I must say I was disappointed in the Super Bowl. I really wanted the 49ers to win. Anyway, this weekend I refreshed my guest bathroom.
🐰
I have to say my new favorite item is the towel holder. It’s so cute and practical. I don’t have a hand towel rack and I hated leaving my towels on my counter. I saw the towel holder from Target and had to get it. It’s the Hearth and Hand brand.
🐰
I added some bunnies for Spring and a touch of pink for some color. The hand towels are from Homegoods. They have so many bunnies and Easter decor. I had to control myself because I was with my husband. I may go back.
🐰
Have a great day!!

Happy Monday!! I have to confess to you. I still h Happy Monday!! I have to confess to you. I still have Christmas in my kitchen.😳 I don’t know where to put it, so I haven’t taken it down. It’s not a lot, but just enough to where I can’t fit it. Ugh! Please tell me I’m not the only one.
💕
I did do one little spot for Valentines, which I think is so cute. I love decorating with Valentines candy. I can’t resist the pinks and the conversation hearts. I do not plan on going all out decorating this season, as time is going so fast, but I may add some hearts here and there.

Hi Everyone! With spring around the corner, now is Hi Everyone! With spring around the corner, now is the time to get your chores done, so when the warmer weather arrives you can enjoy it. My goal is to refresh my bedroom. I am slowly getting rid of stuff that I no longer need and slowly adding new decor. So hopefully in a few weeks it will be done. #twopageshome
♥️
The first thing I added are these stunning customized curtains that I was gifted from @twopagescurtains. Guys, I’m in love! The curtains are just so pretty! I am loving the way it shades the sun, but still lets the light in. Exactly the look I was going for.
♥️
The curtains I chose are the “Liz Linen Drape Soft”. They are a linen curtain that is environmentally friendly, hypoallergenic, long lasting, dust preventative, and breathable. They are also wrinkle free. I didn’t have to steam them. They came right out of the package ready to hang. They also come in 38 colors and 7 shadings to choose from. There is an option for everyone.
♥️
I’ll be honest I was intimidated on ordering custom curtains. I was so afraid I would order them wrong, but I didn’t. Two Pages has a measurement finder that asks you a few easy questions and boom you have your custom curtain size. It was so simple.
♥️
If you are looking for some new curtains or shades for your home, I highly recommend Two Page Curtains. I absolutely love them. They were kind enough to give my followers an 8% discount code: PBANDP. Link in bio
♥️
Are you planning on refreshing any spaces?

Happy Friday! Hope you had a wonderful holiday sea Happy Friday! Hope you had a wonderful holiday season. I am slowly working on taking my Christmas decor down. I still have my tree up, but I love the twinkling lights, and the real reason is I need my husband to get the box out of the garage. lol
💙
I am going with blues in the living room. I just find blue calming and peaceful. The first area I styled is the coffee table. Sorry about the views. I have a small, thin living room.
💙
I decided to go light on the decor and add some fresh faux greenery. I hate leaving the remote controls out, so I decided to store them in a decorative box. Everything here, but the white box was bought at Target.
